Bollywood's Back in Bangalore

Thanks to the intervention of the Supreme Court, legal wranglings, and some deal making, the months-old moratorium on Bollywood films has finally been lifted. New hindi films will now hit the Bangalore screens on the same calendar as the rest of the country.

The Kanataka film industry had resorted to this incredulous bid to protect their profits by blocking the release of new hindi films. Their argument: Hindi films are killing regional cinema. It amazes me that something so ridiculous has been allowed to go on for so long. Were the Karnataka film makers really thinking that folks who watch hindi films will suddenly start lining up for Kannada films?

The Diwali weekend will now see the release of "Veer Zara" and "Naach." Finally, we'll get our long over due fill of Bollywood flix :-)
